[origin: EP0084698A1] The apparatus comprises a printing cylinder (24) for printing an element (W) such as a paper web and feed and take-up rollers (6, 15) for the web. Sensors (39, 42) are provided for sensing the relative positioning of the web and the print which is applied to the web and the signals from the sensors are fed to a micro-processor (38). The microprocessor (38) controls the feed and take-up rollers (6, 15) so that if the relative positioning of the web is incorrect, the feed and take-up rollers are controlled simultaneously to move the web relative to the printing cylinder (24) substantially without varying any tension in the web between the feed roller and the take-up roller.
