[origin: WO8300430A1] Method for preparing a stable, dry-packaged, sterile, nutrient composition which upon addition of sterile, pyrogen-free water is suitable for intravenous administration to a mammal, including a human. The method comprises providing the nutrients in a specific dry form and state of physical purity acceptable for intravenous administration, sealing the nutrients in a particular type of container adapted to receive and dispense sterile fluids and subjecting the container and its sealed contents to a sterilizing, nondestructive dose of ionizing radiation. The method results in a packaged, sterile nutrient composition which may be dissolved by the addition of sterile, pyrogen-free, water. The resulting aqueous intravenous solution may be safely administered to a mammal, including a human, in need of nutrient therapy. The packaged nutrient compositions of the invention exhibit greatly extended storage life and provide an economical method of providing intervenous solutions which are safe and efficacious for use.

Procédés de préparation d'une composition nutritive stable, empaquetée à l'état sec, stérile qui, par addition d'eau stérile exempte de pyrogène, est appropriée à une administration par injection intraveineuse chez les mammifères, y compris chez l'homme. Le procédé consiste à donner aux substances nutritives une forme spécifique à l'état sec et d'une pureté physique acceptable à l'administration intraveineuse, à enfermer de manière hermétique les substances nutritives dans un type particulier de conteneur adapté pour recevoir et distribuer des fluides stériles, et à soumettre le conteneur et son contenu à une dose stérilisante non destructive d'une radiation de ionisation. Le procédé permet d'obtenir une composition nutritive empaquetée stérile qui peut être dissoute par addition d'eau stérile exempte de pyrogène. La solution aqueuse intraveineuse obtenue peut être administrée en toute sécurité à un mammifère, y compris l'homme, ayant besoin d'une thérapie nutritive. Les compositions nutritives empactées de l'invention possèdent une vie de stockage considérablement prolongée et constituent un moyen économique de fournir des solutions intraveineuses dont l'utilisation est sûre et efficace.
