Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0086432A2] Industrial robots represent a danger to operators exceeding that which is normal with working and processing machines, resulting from the free programmability of the movements. These dangers are normally averted by protective devices which, however, have to be deactivated for programming or maintenance of the industrial robot. To reduce the danger, a creep speed and/or jog control is/are usually provided as means of control, which does not however rule out the possibility of uncontrolled movements being triggered by faults or operating errors. According to the invention, for such instances a safety circuit is provided, which is switched on when the work area is entered and which immediately shuts down the industrial robot in the event of uncontrolled movements thereof. According to the invention, the speed of the drive motors (4, 6, 10, 13) permissible during program operation is monitored and, if exceeded, the power supply to the output stages (14 to 17) of the drive motors (4, 6, 10, 13) is immediately switched off. <IMAGE>
