[origin: WO8300615A1] A surgical stapling system, apparatus and staple wherein a resilient staple (21) has a relaxed closed configuration, is expanded into an open crescent shape, and finally is allowed to return to its closed configuration while simultaneously piercing and drawing together adjacent edges (33A) of an open incision or wound. The stapling apparatus (10) contains a plurality of staples (21) and includes projections (28, 29, 30) which engage and secure each staple to the apparatus until its closure to tissue is complete and separation from the apparatus is desired. Further mechanism (2, 3, 4 & 5) is provided to control the staple as it closes and optionally to re-open a closed or partially closed staple.

Système d'agrafage chirurgical, dispositif et agrafe, où une agrafe élastique (21) possédant une configuration fermée à l'état de repos, est dilatée de manière à assumer une forme de croissant ouvert, et est laissée revenir à sa configuration fermée tout en perçant et tirant ensemble les bords adjacents (33A) d'une incision ou blessure ouverte. Le dispositif d'agrafage (10) contient une pluralité d'agrafes (21) et comprend des éléments en saillie (28, 29, 30) qui engagent et retiennent chaque agrafe dans le dispositif jusqu'à ce que sa fermeture dans le tissu soit complète et que l'on souhaite sa séparation du dispositif. Un autre mécanisme (2, 3, 4 et 5) est prévu pour commander la fermeture de l'agrafe et facultativement pour rouvrir une agrafe fermée ou partiellement fermée.
