[origin: WO8300805A1] The device has two frames (1, 3) interconnected by a rotation shaft (2) and spaced from each other by torsion bars (6, 7) and by pneumatic springs (12, 13) prestressed and arranged close to the shaft (2). The inclined upper frame (3) is used as a support for the mattress portion located close to the head of a bed. In order to vary the inclination angle of the upper frame (3), there are provided steel cables (14, 21) fixed to said upper frame and which are deviated by pulleys (15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24) arranged on the other frame (1) and connected to a pivoting lever (19) on the latter frame (1) and actuated by a lifting motor (26). By actuating the lifting motor (26) in one direction, the cables (14, 21) cause the pivoting of one frame (1) against the other frame (3) and against the reaction of portion bars (6, 7) and of pneumatic springs (12, 13). By actuating the motor in the opposite direction, the frames (1, 3) are moved away from each other under the effect of the torsion bars (6, 7) and of the pneumatic springs (12, 13).
