A large-size shuttering element (10) intended for the concrete casing mode of construction, formed in particular of hard foam material, the side walls (12) of which on the bearing surfaces have a groove and tongue design (26, 28, 30, 32) for displaced location of shuttering elements (10) and are connected with one another by webs (16) and end walls (14), the end walls (14) corresponding in their shape to the centrally divisible webs (16) and having upper and lower recesses (18, 20) which can be closed by insert pieces (22, 24) to be brought into form-locking engagement with the end walls (14), characterised in that on their side which is upwardly directed, in use, the webs (16) in the central zone (38), viewed in longitudinal section through the shuttering element, apart from an optional groove or notch (48) extending centrally in the longitudinal direction of the webs (16), are designed to extend level and parallel to the upper side or underside of the shuttering element or to slope downwardly towards the edges, and the upper insert piece (22) is provided with a flange part (50) which when inserted extends below the central zone (38) of the upper recess (18) of the end wall (14) and abuts against the inside thereof.
