1. Method of cooling basically long or flat metallurgical products (1) having a substantially constant thickness with a view to minimizing the geometric distortions without altering the use properties, characterised in that substantially half the lateral surface is covered by a layer (2) which is insulating or a poorer conductor of heat than the product to be cooled (1) before the covered surface (2) of the product is brought into contact with an aqueous cooling medium (4).

L'invention est relative à un procédé de refroidissement économique de produits métallurgiques qui minimise les déformations de ceux-ci tout en préservant leurs propriétés d'emploi. La méthode consiste à refroidir le produit métallurgique (1) avec un mode de refroidissement différent entre approximativement les deux moitiés adjacentes de sa surface extérieure, chacune d'elle s'étendant selon le sens long ou le plan principal du produit quand il(s) existe(nt). Cette différence de refroidissement est de préférence assurée par enduction d'une des moitiés du produit (1) par un revêtement isolant (2) et par immersion dans un bain ou arrossage unilatéral, côté revêtement. La méthode s'applique particulièrement bien aux produits relativement minces. Il en résulte également une économie de fluide de refroidissement et une augmentation de la productivité des installations.
