[origin: EP0092683A1] The method consists of depositing an added material in a compartment (15) of an engine cylinder head (2) which is constructed of a base material different from the added material and able to form therewith an alloy having a relatively high hardness and strength; then by means of a laser beam heating the added material until it together with an immediately surrounding layer (21) of base material have been melted in order to produce alloying of the added material in this latter; and finally cooling the molten metal alloy thus formed in the compartment (15) in order to produce its rapid solidification therein.
