[origin: EP0093226A2] An apparatus for feeding filamentary material, in particular wire, by withdrawing it from a reel (18), in which a constantly self-filling intermediate store (25) is arranged downstream of the reel, the invention proposing that, in order to achieve a twist-free wire or sliver running and sensitive tensioning equalisation, the reel (18) be driven by a friction wheel (8) bearing on the outer wire layer (17) and the intermediate store (25) carry wire deflection rollers (36, 37) which are movable relative to one another in the manner of a block and tackle and can be displaced on vertical rails (30, 31), at least one roller of which shortens the unwound wire length by exclusive gravitational force loading and controls the friction wheel drive. <IMAGE>
