A matrix thermo-printer having a frame (4), a spring-loaded printing head (2, 3) mounted pivotably about a vertical axis, a shaft (17) rotatably mounted in the frame (4) for controlling the pivoting movement of the printing head (2, 3) so that it is brought from an operating position, in which it is in contact with a presser roll (5) mounted rotatably in the frame (4), into an inoperative position in which the strip to be printed can be introduced between printing head (2, 3) and presser roll (5), characterized in that the printing head (2, 3) is mounted, by means of two horizontal guide wings (8, 9), pivotably and displaceably with play about a journal (14) secured to the frame (4) and arranged parallel to the axis of the presser roll (5), while in the operating position only one of these guide wings (8, 9) is in operative connection with the said journal (14) so that the spring-loaded printing head (2, 3) is in contact only with a generatrix of the presser roll (5) and a point of the journal (14).
