[origin: EP0095122A2] In the continuous treatment of soft flexible pieces of flat material with pressure and/or heat, it is a problem to extend the dwell time and hence the duration of the treatment without having to employ correspondingly longer lengths of the continuous track, for example a drum shell. To solve the problem, the pieces of flat material (FM) are entrained in contact with one or more working surfaces (F1, F2, F3) moving in the transport direction for a plurality of revolutions each while being subjected to heat and/or pressure. The apparatus for carrying out the continuous process comprises an FM-lifting means (AHV) which is situated within the range of a travelling work surface and which, whenever a front edge of a piece of material has passed through a predetermined number of times, is transferred from a let-pass position (SD) into a lifting position (II). <IMAGE>
