[origin: EP0096187A2] In a device for monitoring the position of a connecting end (6) of a land-based ship-loading installation having rotatable and pivotable cantilever arms (3-5), a solution is to be provided which, in particular, enables a monitoring person to ascertain visually at any time the precise point at which the connecting end (6) is situated during the mounting and during the loading and unloading process, so as to be able to prevent any disturbances. This is achieved by means of angle measuring devices (8) for determining the respective angular position of the cantilever arms (3-5) in the horizontal and vertical plane, by means of an arithmetic unit (9) for converting the information provided by the angle measuring devices (8), combined with constants provided by the geometry of the cantilever arms (3-5, 7), and determining the actual state of the connecting end (6) in space, and also by means of a visual display unit (11) for displaying the actual state on a screen (12). <IMAGE>
