Method for the recuperation of heat from flue gases, with which the flue gases are brought into contact with a cooling medium in a heat exchanger via heat transfer surfaces, the components of the flue gases are partially condensed thereby and the condensate is abducted, characterized in that the flue gases are conducted substantially vertically through the heat exchanger from bottom to top along at least one continuous heat transfer surface that the length of the heat exchanger and/or the temperature of the cooling medium are selected such that the condensation takes place in the upper region of the heat exchanger and that the resulting condensate flows off in the form of a liquid film on the heat transfer surfaces in the opposite direction to the flow of flue gases.
