Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0097113A2] The method uses a shield tunnelling machine and prefabricated tubbing support, fitted in the shield, as well as devices for carrying out the method. In this method, the self-stabilising forces of the rock are activated to relieve the tunnel construction, by the tunnel excavation being produced with a slight, predefined overcut in the roof area with respect to the extent of the supporting constructions (tunnelling shield and support). This overcut corresponds approximately to the amount by which the rock is expected to deform when the internal supporting framework is set up. By means of devices (6) which can be extended hydraulically out of the rigid shield (7) and corresponding devices in the lining (sand holders in selected longitudinal tubbing joints), the rock is supported only in a yielding manner, so that the supporting means can adapt to the deformations of the rock which are necessary for setting up the internal bearing framework. <IMAGE>
