A fan drive for a cooling installation, in particular for rail vehicles, comprising a hydraulic motor and a regulating valve which in dependence on temperature controls a by-pass through which the flow of pressure fluid operating the motor can be influenced, wherein the regulating valve which is acted upon in the closing direction by a control pressure is controllable in dependence on a pilot control valve actuated by means of an electromechanical control member and the regulating valve and the pilot control valve form a structural unit with the housing of the hydraulic motor, characterized in that the by-pass is formed by a bore (21) in the housing (69) of the hydraulic motor (6) and the regulating valve (13) includes a control piston (25) which is arranged in said bore (21) and which delimits a control chamber (26), and that the pilot control valve (34) is an analog valve which is in the form of a seat valve and which in the opening direction has an operative surface which is acted upon by pressure and a spring (45) acts on the pilot control valve (34) in the closing direction, the spring force of said spring being adjustable, and that the electromagnetic control member is a variable-stroke regulating solenoid (15, 52).
