[origin: EP0097742A1] A theft detection system and method for detecting the unauthorised movement of an article 11 or assembly from a given location, such as in the act of theft or burglarizing a home, office, store or warehouse. Detection of such unauthorised movement or theft may be made at a remote location, such as a monitor station particularly when such movement is detected beyond predetermined bounds or limits. The system involves the short wave transmission of code signals which are indicative of the identity of the article or assembly and/or the location of its unauthorised movement. The code signals may be generated by electronic circuits 10 supported by or in the article to be protected. Detection of the signals is carried out at the monitor station so that movement of the article can be observed.
