An anchor chain stopper comprising a through passage which guides the anchor chain (3), a holding catch (7) which holds the chain (3), a guiding element (9) for the chain strand extending from the windless to the anchor, and apparatus for retightening the chain, characterized in that the apparatus is formed by the guiding element which is movable approximately transversely to the chain strand by means of an actuating drive (10), the guiding element being operatively connected thereto.
