[origin: WO8302580A1] A method and apparatus for containing an annular body of liquid about a sleeve (13) spanning the abutting ends of pipe lengths (11, 12) and firing a charge of propellant (30), such as fast burning smokeless powder, in the liquid so as to radially shrink the sleeve (13) into sealing engagement with the pipe lengths (11, 12). If desired, the pipe lengths (11, 12) can be internally supported to avoid the possibility of collapse. Hard annular elements (16, 17) may be interposed between the sleeve (13) and the pipe lengths (11, 12) to produce better mechanical locking.

Appareil et méthode pour maintenir un corps annulaire de liquide autour d'un manchon (13) qui chevauche les extrémités adjacentes de longueurs (11, 12) de tuyaux et pour brûler une charge d'un agent propulseur (30), tel qu'une poudre sans fumée à combustion rapide, dans le liquide de façon à rétrécir le manchon (13) radiallement jusqu'à ce qu'il s'engrène de façon étanche avec les longueurs (11, 12) de tuyaux. Si nécessaire, les longueurs (11, 12) de tuyaux peuvent être soutenues de l'intérieur afin d'éviter toute possibilité d'effondrement.
