The roll comprises a core with a polyurethane ribbon wound helically round it. Smooth and profiled, in particular grooved or the like, roll surfaces can be obtained in this way. This makes it possible to form drainage channels in the roll surface, advantageous for example for wet presses. Rolls with a surface layer of wound polyurethane ribbon can also be used with advantage in textile production, as pickling rolls in sheet steel manufacture, as embossing calenders for aluminium foils or plastics films and for many other purposes. <IMAGE>

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Walze, in erster Linie eine Papiermaschinenwalze, mit einem auf einen Walzenkern aufgebrachten Überzug. Dieser Überzug ist aus einem Polyurethanband schraubenförmig auf den Walzenkern aufgewickelt. Glatte und profilierte, insbesondere mit Rillen und dergleichen versehene Walzenoberflächen können so erzielt werden. Auf diese Weise können in der Walzenoberfläche Entwässerungskanäle gebildet werden, die z.B. für Naßpressen vorteilhaft sind. Walzen mit einem Überzug aus einem aufgewickelten Polyurethanband können mit Vorteil auch bei der Textilherstellung, als Beizwalzen bei der Stahlblechherstellung, als Prägekalander für Aluminium- oder Kunststoffolien und für viele andere Zwecke verwendet werden.
