Abstract (en)
Improvement in processes for digesting wood chips to improve the efficiency of the process and the effective utilization of heat, the process consisting in cooking the chips under pressure in a digester at relatively high temperatures to produce cooked chips and a hot black liquor, discharging or displacing the hot black liquor from the digester for reuse in subsequent treatment cycles. The improvement comprising the step of establishing a blanket of air over the mass of cooked chips in said digester at sufficient pressure to discharge the mass of cooked chips from said digester.
