Lumps of block iron are remelted in the presence of limestone and coke, each in the form of lumps, and, if appropriate, glass cullet and/or magnetite as additives at a temperature of about 1350 to 1600 DEG C and the melt forming two layers is separated into the molten metal and the molten slag.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Verminderung des Titan- und Aluminiumgehaltes in Blockeisen, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man stückiges Blockeisen in Gegenwart von jeweils stückigem Kalkstein und Koks sowie gegebenenfalls Glasbruch und/oder Magnetit als Zuschlagstoffe bei einer Temperatur von etwa 1350 bis 1600°C umschmilzt und aus der zwei Schichten bildenden Schmelze die Metallschmelze von der Schlackenschmelze abtrennt.
