Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0103680A2] A gravure cylinder consists of a cylinder core and a tube mounted on it as a support for an engraving specimen. The tube consists of material which can be engraved by machine and has a hardness of between 95 HV and 200 HV, preferably 170 HV, which, on the one hand, allows engraving to take place without problems but, on the other hand, also has a long service life in accordance with the high hardness values. It is possible due to this material for the printing specimen to be engraved by machine. This purpose is preferably served by an electronically controlled engraving device with a diamond chisel. Galvanising and etching operations are unnecessary with this gravure cylinder according to the invention. <IMAGE>
