Bed with lying surface with two parallel longitudinally directed side parts (2), two transverse parts (3, 4) connecting the side parts at the head and foot end and a mattress support frame located therein having vertically adjustable transverse beams (5), whose top surface forms the mattress support surface, the lying surface being essentially adaptable to a spine longitudinal profile of a bed user, characterized in that the side parts (2) have receptacles (7) for fixing devices (11, 12) extending in horizontal and vertical rows and respecting grid dimensions and that the transverse beams are constructed as horizontal cross bars (5) and the latter can be fixed by means of fixing devices (10) secured in the receptacle (7) independently of one another to side parts (2) in a randomly selectable height within the setting range fixed by the receptacle (7).
