[origin: EP0104319A2] The writing tubes and/or cleaning wires for the writing nib of fountain pens, which consist of a basic body made of nickel chromium steel, are provided with an outer, wear-resistant surface layer using a boride treatment method. The formation of the boride takes place by a powder/gas phase/diffusion method using dried boride powder or granules, in which method oxygen is prevented from entering before, during and after the treatment. The treatment can take place under inert gas or normal atmospheric conditions.
