The contour of the characters reproduced on the raster-scanned screen is location-dependent in accordance with the pattern of the grid. By moving the characters the position-dependent deviation of the contour is compensated in that, as it follows the moving characters, the eye of the viewer averages out their changing contours.

Die Kontur der auf gerasterten Bildschirmen wiedergegebenen Zeichen ist entsprechend dem Muster des Rasters ortsabhängig. Durch Bewegung der Zeichen wird die Lagebedingte Abweichung der Kontur ausgeglichen, indem das Auge des Beobachters, während es den bewegten Zeichen folgt, deren wechselnde Konturen ausmittelt.
