[origin: WO8303507A1] A local area network has a plurality of data stations (1) each connected to a common data channel (2) via a receiver (5), a transmitter (6) and a directional coupler (7), wherein, in order to resolve contention for the channel and at the same time providing each station with statistically an equal chance of gaining use of the channel, each station contends for use of the channel by transmitting, when the channel is free, transmission request signals in a sequence of consecutive time periods wherein in each time period the station either transmits a request or does not transmit a request according to a predetermined code. If in any time period a data station (1) transmits a request but detects no transmitted requests by other stations, the station is permitted use of the channel (2). If the station (1) does not transmit in any time period and another station transmits a request, then the station aborts contention.

Un réseau local comprend une pluralité de terminaux informatiques (1), chacun connecté à un canal informatique commun (2) par l'intermédiaire d'un récepteur (5), d'un émetteur (6) et d'un coupleur directionnel (7). Afin de résoudre des conflits entre différentes sollicitations du canal, et en même temps de donner à chaque terminal une chance statistiquement égale d'obtenir accès au canal, chaque terminal sollicite accès au canal en transmettant, quand le canal est libre, des signaux de demande de transmission dans une séquence de périodes de temps consécutives, le terminal transmettant une demande ou ne transmettant pas de demande pendant chaque période de temps selon un code prédéterminé. Si pendant une période de temps quelconque un terminal informatique (1) transmet une demande mais ne détecte aucune demande transmise par d'autres terminaux, le terminal reçoit l'autorisation d'utiliser le canal (2). Si le terminal (1) ne transmet pas pendant une période de temps quelconque et un autre terminal transmet une requête, alors le terminal abandonne la sollicitation.
