An apparatus for securing the shafts of buildings, for example light shafts, against forcible intrusion or passage, including at least one hollow blocking bar (3) which spans the shaft transversely and which is held at both ends in respective anchor members attached to the wall of the shaft with covered bolts (9) and which contains a prismatic security rod (11, 30) of substantially the same length, characterized in that the blocking bar (3) has the form of a polygonal prism the ends (4, 4') of which are held in form-fitting manner in respective recesses (6) of an associated respective attachment base (5) in such a way that the ends lie in aligned opposition to the mounting bolts (9) of the base (5) and cover them completely as well as are secured against pull-out from the base by means of a latch member lock mechanism (12 to 16, 26).
