Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8401395A1] When using ordinary mangles (1) for drying and ironing wet linen (11), having hollow wooden cylinders (2) provided with a coating (3) and partially envelopped with a heated ironing surface (4, 5), large quantities of energy are lost due to the suction of ambiant cold air. In order to remedy such desadvantage radically it is proposed according to the invention to cover the free area of the hollow cylinder (2) with a hood (6) of which the edges (9) are sealed with respect to the coating (3) of the cylinder. The suction (8) of steam is effected directly into the hood (6), thereby providing overheated wet steam within the hood itself if the suction takes place in the direction opposite to the linen travelling direction (11). Said overheated wet steam is particularly appropriate as a drive means for washing machines or the like.
