The stepladder comprises a first pair of main uprights (2) equipped with a plurality of folding rungs, and a second pair of auxiliary uprights (12) used in combination with the main uprights. This stepladder comprises an elastic member (50) between each main upright (2) and each auxiliary upright (12) which tends to drive the auxiliary upright (12) from a folded position where it is held in place by a locking member to an unfolded service position. One application is the production of a folding stepladder with automatic opening. <IMAGE>

L'invention est relative à une échelle-escabeau repliable comportant une première paire de montants principaux (2) munis d'une pluralité d'échelons repliables, une deuxième paire de montants auxiliaires (12) associés aux montants principaux. Cette échelle-escabeau comporte entre chaque montant principal (2) et chaque montant auxiliaire (12) un organe élastique (50) qui tend à entraîner le montant auxiliaire (12) d'une position repliée où il est maintenu par un organe de verrouillage vers une position déployée de service. Une application est la réalisation d'une échelle-escabeau repliable à ouverture automatique.
