Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8303867A1] A building panel (30) having inner and outer faces (32, 50) outlined by opposite ends (45, 49) and upper (34) and lower (36) edges, has opposite ends adapted to closely face the end of an adjacent panel in the same course. The outer face (50) of the panel includes a lower segment (54) of substantially greater surface area adapted for exposure and an upper portion (52) of relatively smaller surface area adapted to underlie a lower portion of one or more panels in a next higher course laid in overlapping relation therewith. One of the ends of said panel includes an overlap end segment (38S) adapted to overlie an underlying end segment (40S) at the other end of an adjacent panel laid up end to end in the same course to form a ship lap end joint between the panels. The overlap end segment (38S) includes a marginal end portion of the outer face (50) with an underside (39) of the segment therebelow, and said overlap end segment is formed to slope from a minimum thickness adjacent the upper panel edge (34) toward a mximum thickness adjacent the lower panel edge (36). The panel (30) includes an underlying end segment (40S) at the other end containing a marginal end portion of the inner face (32) with an upper face (41) of the segment adapted to underlie a sloping underside (39) of the overlap end segment of an adjacent panel and said underlying end segment is formed to slope from a maximum thickness adjacent the upper panel edge (34) toward a minimum thickness adjacent the lower panel edge (36).
