Abstract (en)
A stabilisation mechanism for stabilising an antenna has a pendulum arrangement (25, 26, 27) mounted on rotational bearings (22, 24) to give an effective compensatory movement for (e.g.) pitch and roll of a ship. Under complex sinusoidal movements of the mechanism a secondary pendulum comprising a disc member (30) which has a section removed and which is pivoted for three dimensional movement above its centre of mass is caused to rotate thus moving its centre of mass effectively to its pivot point and moving the centre of mass of the primary pendulum up towards its pivot point. Shortening the vertical distance of the centre of mass of the pendulum below its pivot point alters the resonant frequency of the pendulum to assist maintenance of sufficient stablisation of the position of the antenna (42).
