[origin: WO8304215A1] A sheet-binding apparatus which is particularly useful as an accessory for a high speed document copier for producing, "on line", adhesively bound booklets from copy sheets delivered by the copier. Such sheet-binding apparatus is adapted to receive sheets moving along a first path and to apply adhesive adjacent an edge of such sheets which extends in a direction perpendicular to such a path. The binding apparatus (44) includes a sheet drive mechanism (144) for altering the course of the received sheets so as to advance the sheets along a second path which is substantially parallel with the edge to which adhesive is to be applied. An adhesive applicator (200) is stationarily positioned along the second path to apply a strip of adhesive to the sheets moving therepast at a location adjacent the edge to be bound. After the adhesive is applied the sheets are stacked in registration with the adhesive between adjacent sheets. By altering the sheet path after receipt, the prior art requirement of moving the adhesive applicator along the sheet edge to apply a strip of adhesive thereto is eliminated.

Un appareil de reliure est particulièrement utile en tant qu'accessoire pour une copieuse de documents à haute vitesse dans le but de produire "en direct" des brochures reliées par adhésion à partir de feuilles de reproduction délivrées par la copieuse. Un tel appareil de reliure est adapté pour recevoir des feuilles se déplaçant le long d'un premier chemin et pour appliquer un adhésif adjacent à un bord de ces feuilles dans une direction perpendiculaire au chemin. L'appareil de reliure (40) comprend un mécanisme d'entraînement des feuilles (144) pour modifier le cours des feuilles reçues de manière à les faire avancer le long d'un second chemin sensiblement parallèle au bord sur lequel l'adhésif est appliqué. Un application d'adhésif (20) est positionnée de manière stationnaire le long du second chemin pour appliquer une bande d'un adhésif sur les feuilles se déplaçant au-devant de cet applicateur à un endroit adjacent au bord à relier. Après application de l'adhésif, les feuilles sont empilées de manière à ce qu'elles coïncident, l'adhésif se trouvant entre les feuilles adjacentes. En modifiant le cheminement des feuilles après réception, la nécessité de l'art antérieur de déplacer l'applicateur d'adhésif le long du bord des feuilles pour y appliquer une bande d'un adhésif est éliminée.
