[origin: US4582743A] The invention concerns toilet paper as it is usually manufactured in rolls. Considering that in use the central area of the paper is particularly subject to tearing and strain, the toilet paper of this invention has a central area which is significantly thicker than its edges. The greater thickness in the central area can be achieved, for example, by having normal width or by Z-folding a paper strip such that the overlap created by the Z-fold lies on the longitudinal axis of the strip. A manufacturing method and equipment using rollers and guides particularly suited for the performance of the manufacturing method are described.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Toilettenpapier, wie es üblicherweise als Rollenware hergestellt wird. Ausgehend von der Überlegung, daß bei der Benutzung insbesondere der mittlere Bereich auf Reißfestigkeit und Dehnbarkeit beansprucht wird, soll das erfindungsgemäß ausgeführte Toilettenpapier im mittleren Bereich eine wesentlich größere Stärke haben als im Randbereich. Die größere Stärke im mittleren Bereich kann beispielsweise durch Faltung eines Papierstreifens und Anordnung des durch Faltung gebildeten schmaleren Streifens im mittleren Bereich der Papierbahnen gebildet werden. Ein hierfür besonders geeignetes Herstellungsverfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung dieses Verfahrens mittels Rollen und Leitschienen werden beschrieben.
