[origin: WO8400048A1] Reinforcing and confining of earth formations comprising a plurality of support members having a retaining portion (21) for anchoring in bore hole in the earth formation and an exposed portion having at least two free ends (22, 23) lying substantially against the earth formation at an angle of substantially against the earth formation at an angle of between 90<o>-180<o> to each other, the free ends having closed loops for direct interconnection with support members in adjacent bore holes to define a mesh-like structure over the surface of the earth formation. The earth formation may be reinforced by tensioning either the anchored portion of a support member in the bore hole and/or the free ends.
