Zum Spannen von Gurten für Packungs- und Zurrungszwecke, die mit einer selbsthemmenden Gurteinschaufung in einem Spannschloß festgehalten werden, wird ein Werkzeug verwendet, das seinerseits eine selbsthemmende Einschlaufung an einem manuell schwenkbaren Spannhebel aufweist. Das Spannwerkzeug wird durch Klemm-Mittel an dem zu spannenden Gurt angesetzt. Um ein einfaches und zuverlässiges Spannen zu gewährleisten, werden als Klemm-Mittel ein C-Rahmen mit seitlichem Ausbruch zum Quereinschieben eines gestreckt bleibenden Gurtstückes verwendet, das über den einen Rahmensteg gelangt. Am gegenüberliegenden Rahmensteg befindet sich die Schwenklagerung für einen Klemmblock, der aus einer den Rahmensteg freigebenden Offenlage in eine Klemmlage überführbar ist. In Klemmlage läßt sich der Klemmblock in Einschwenkrichtung weiterbewegen und an der Gurtpreßstelle ist der Reibungsbeiwert zwischen dem freien Blockende und dem Gurt größer als der Reibungsbeiwert zwischen dem Gurt und der Steg-Innenfläche.
