[origin: EP0112539A2] Corrosion inhibitors in mineral oil-based lubricating oils and lubricating greases are monoamides of adducts of mono- or poly-unsaturated fatty acids (C16-22) and maleic anhydride or fumaric acid, which are produced by reacting the acids with ammonia, primary or secondary alkylamines (C1-22) to give monoamido-dicarboxylic acids. Reaction products with alkylamines (C8-20), e.g. dibutylamines, ethylhexylamines and dodecylamines, are preferred. The derivatives are viscous oils soluble in mineral oil; they are applied in quantities of 0.1 - 10 (1 - 2) %, relative to the mineral oil base. Production examples and testing of the extent of corrosion when used in lubricating oils.
