A chain of closed ring configuration of eight parallelepipedic members (1 to 8) which are of equal size and which are hingedly connected and which can be selectively converted to two similar larger parallelepipedic members with different outside surface areas and of the parallelepipedic members of which at least one pair of oppositely disposed side surfaces is square and which are folded up from prefolded strip-like cardboard blanks (17, 18) and which are of a stable shape by virtue of an adhesive flap (24 or 25, 26, 27) which is stuck in position, and insertion flaps (32), and of which two pairs of parallelepipedic members (2, 3; 6, 7) which are respectively disposed in succession in the chain are folded up from a respective one of two mutually identical cardboard blanks (17), wherein each pair (2, 3 ; 6, 7) of the parallelepipedic members on the one hand is hingedly connected at a hinge location (13 ; 14) of the cardboard blank (17), which hinge location extends transversely with respect to the strip at mutually facing side edges (20, 21) of the parallelepipedic members (2, 3 ; 6, 7), end, on the other hand, at two further hinge locations (9, 10 ; 11, 12) which are remote from said side edges (20, 21) and which extend transversely with respect to said side edges and which are in symmetrically opposite relationship in regard to parallelepipedic members (2, 3 ; 6, 7) which are disposed in succession in a row, is hingedly connected to a respective side edge, of the same length, on both sides of adjoining outer parallelepipedic members (1, 4 ; 5, 8) of the chain, wherein the outer parallelepipedic members (1, 4 ; 5, 8), with pairs of parallelepipedic members (2, 3 ; 6, 7) extending similarly in juxtaposed relationship, are in turn also hingedly connected together in pairs at respective further hinge locations (15 ; 16) which are remote from said hinge locations (9, 11 ; 10, 12) and which extend transversely with respect thereto, characterized in that the two outer pairs of parallelepipedic members (1, 5 ; 4, 8) are also respective bodies which are folded up from one of two further mutually identical strip-shaped cardboard blanks (18).
