Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0114204A2] The firearm has a cylinder which is connected to the barrel via a bore and in which cylinder a piston acting on the breech is mounted displaceably, and it has an automatically acting shut-off valve arranged in the connection between the barrel and gas cylinder and intended for regulating the gas supply. The loading operation is executed largely independently of the particular projectile if the firearm has a mounted system (1) which, when a shot is fired, executes a return movement dependent on the shot momentum. The position of the shut-off valve (44) is controlled by an inert mass loaded by a spring (45) and mounted moveably in relation to the mounted system (1), in such a way that, as a result of the coordination of the size of the mass and the force of the spring with the return behaviour of the mounted system, the mass can follow only a slow return movement of this system, as occurs during the firing of ammunition with a weak projectile momentum, and can thereby keep the valve open, whereas the mass lags behind in relation to the system and causes the bore to be closed more, the faster the return movement of the system responds to a strong projectile momentum. Preferably, the shut-off valve is formed by a slide (44) which is arranged in the cylinder (31) and which also directly forms the inert mass determining the valve position and loaded by a spring. <IMAGE>
