[origin: WO8400719A1] A method of making a differential gloss product which comprises: forming a gelled, potentially foamable, base resinous material (12); printing thereon a predetermined pattern (14), some portions containing a urethane polymerization catalyst and either the same or other portions containing a foaming inhibitor; applying to the printed pattern a resinous wear layer (16); gelling the resinous wear layer and foaming and fusing the resinous materials; applying a urethane top coating composition (18) containing no urethane polymerization catalyst to the resinous wear layer; heating to polymerize the portions of the urethane coating composition (18B) lying directly over the portions containing the urethane polymerization catalyst (14B) to create interspersed high gloss polymerized surfaces; mechanically embossing the entire urethane coating to cause texturing of the entire surface, applying a urethane polymerization catalyst substantially uniformly to the entire surface of said urethane coating composition either before or after the mechanically embossing step; and heating the thus textured urethane coating and said catalyst to polymerize the remaining surfaces of the urethane coating composition (18) to create thereat low gloss surfaces due to the mechanical embossing whereas the portions of the urethane coating which had been polymerized previously revert back to their original high gloss appearance.

Un procédé de fabrication d'un produit à lustre différencié consiste à former un matériau de base résineux, gélifié, potentiellement moussable (12), à imprimer sur ce matériau un motif prédéterminé (14), certaines parties contenant un catalyseur de polymérisation d'uréthane et, soit les mêmes parties soit d'autres parties, contenant un inhibiteur de moussage, à appliquer sur le motif imprimé une couche résineuse d'usure (16), à effectuer la gélification de la couche d'usure résineuse et à mousser et fusionner les matériaux résineux, à appliquer une composition de revêtement superficiel d'uréthane (18) ne contenant pas de catalyseur de polymérisation d'uréthane sur la couche d'usure résineuse, à chauffer pour polymériser les parties de la composition de revêtement d'uréthane (18B) se trouvant directement sur les parties contenant le catalyseur de polymérisation d'uréthane (14B) pour créer des surfaces polymérisées clairsemées de forte brillance, à gauffrer mécaniquement la totalité du revêtement d'uréthane pour provoquer la texturation de toute la surface, à appliquer un catalyseur de polymérisation d'uréthane sensiblement uniformément sur toute la surface de ladite composition de revêtement d'uréthane soit avant soit après l'étape de gauffrage mécanique, et à chauffer le revêtement d'uréthane ainsi texturé et ledit catalyseur pour polymériser les surfaces restantes de la composition de revêtement d'uréthane (18) pour y créer des surfaces de faible brillance due au gauffrage mécanique tandis que les parties du revêtement d'uréthane qui ont été polymérisées antérieurement reprennent leur aspect de grande brillance d'origine.
