Device for ink profile-dependent regulation of a dampening medium in an inking unit (16) of offset printing machines, said inking unit supplying to the plate cylinder (12) a uniformly thick film of an inking/dampening medium over the width of the printing forme, comprising a hydrophilic measuring roller (1) being in connection with one of the inking rollers (5, 17, 18), a measuring device (3), in the area of said measuring roller (1), measuring section-by-section over the width of said measuring roller the extent of wetting on the outer cylindrical surface of said measuring roller, a special device for varying section-by-section the proportion of the dampening medium in the ink film and a control part for converting the signals measured by said measuring device into adjustment commands and transmitting them to said device for varying section-by-section the proportion of the dampening medium in the ink film, wherein the hydrophilic measuring roller (1) cooperates with a rubber-covered inking roller (5, 17, 18) for regulating the amount of dampening medium in the inking unit (16), and wherein through the intermediary of the temperature varying on the surface of the hydrophilic measuring roller (1) the amount of dampening medium can be varied in the individual zones or over the entire width by means of the measuring signals so that the thickness of the dampening medium film at the measuring roller (1) and thus at the inking roller (5, 17, 18) can be influenced.
