[origin: EP0118113A2] In a rim lock 10 with a security check 34 retained on the bolt abutment 16 and comprising two bolts 24, 26 mounted displaceably in the lock case and actuable by means of a handle 28 or the like, the two bolts 24, 26 are displaceable simultaneously by means of a common handle 28 or the like between three common positions, namely a first position, in which the check bolt 26 assumes its open position and the security check take-up bolt 24 its security check release position, a second position, in which the check bolt 26 assumes an intermediate position and the security check take-up bolt 24 its security check take-up bolt position, and a third position, in which the check bolt 26 assumes a checking position and the security check take-up bolt 24 likewise a checking position engaging in a bolt recess 28 of the bolt abutment 16. In the intermediate position of the check bolt 26, the security check 34 of the check bolt 26 can be moved unimpeded between its closing position and its part-open position by the check bolt 26. The rim lock is characterised by an especially simple construction and simple operation, whilst at the same time ensuring a high degree of security against break-in. <IMAGE>
