[origin: EP0118574A1] A single lighting fixture (10) for mounting in front of a large billboard (12) having a horizontal length approximately two times as long as its vertical length is disclosed. The lighting fixture (10) comprises a lamp housing (16) having a lamp (20) positioned therein with the lamp (20) being approximately horizontally positioned in the housing (16). A new and novel reflector (32) is positioned on one side of the lamp (20) and is designed to reflect the light radiating from the lamp (20) in such a manner that the bottom surface (34) of the reflector (32) is utilized to light up the approximate central portion (78) of the billborad (12), while the sides (36, 38) of the reflector (32) are used to light triangular shaped side corners (80, 82, 84, 86) of the billboard (12). A refractor (18) is positioned on the lamp housing (16) to totally enclose the lamp (20) with the refractor (18) comprising in part three phase light control prism elements for stray light control. The combination of the reflector (32) and refractor (18) is designed so as to illuminate the opposite adjacent corners of the billboard (12) with approximately 80% of the light quantity illuminating approximately 30% of the billboard corners and approximately 20% of the light quantity illuminating 70% of the edge of the billboard.
