A device for testing shades of colour, with a print cylinder (1), colour applying means (2) cooperating with the cylinder's surface, and a strip (5) of material to be printed, which strip is attached in a quick-release manner to a bed (6) having a flat surface over which the print cylinder rolls, characterised in that the print cylinder is a gravure print cylinder (1) and the colour applying means in a doctor blade (2) which bears on the top of the print cylinder, both are mounted on a carriage (16) having a handle (17) for moving it, and the bed (6) has longitudinal grooves (18) in which on each side there engage two mutually spaced rollers (19) disposed on the lower edge of the carriage (16).
