La machine est remarquable en ce qu'elle est composée d'une succession de postes (A1, A2, B, C, E, D), selon lesquels les bandes (b1 à b4) stockées sur des mateaux (1 à 4), sont déroulées en tension constante et reliées en continu par des dispositifs de collage; des magasins (F, G) délivrent les bandes soit à un dispositif de rétraction (29) par vaporisation, soit à un four (36) de séchage et de rétraction; les bandes sont ensuite bobinées en (D), avec contrôle permanent de la qualité et des longueurs. L'invention s'applique principalement aux bandes à pansement.
