A process for treating ferrous substrates for receiving a high-solids organic solvent-thinned coating by which inadvertent drippage or splashing of the dry phosphated surfaces with the iron phosphating solution does not produce blemishes, discolourations and/or surface imperfections in the final painted surface, comprises employing an aqueous iron phosphating solution devoid of any conventional inorganic oxidants or accelerating agents such as chloride or chlorate and employs an organic oxidizing agent, preferably meta nitrobenzene sulphonic acid or a salt thereof.

Zur Vorbereitung von Eisen- oder Stahloberflächen für die Aufbringung von high-solids-Lacken wird zwecks Ausbildung einer einwandfreien Lackoberfläche ein Phosphaltierverfahren ausgewählt, das mit einer phosphatierungslösung auf Basis Alkaliphosphat arbeitet. Die Phosphatierungslösung weist einen pH-Wert von 4,2 bis 6 auf und enthält Dihydrogenphosphat in einer Konzentration von 3 bis 60 g/l und als Beschleuniger meta-Nitrobenzolsulfonat in einer Menge von 0,1 bis 3,0 g/l. Anschließend wird gespült und getrocknet. Vorzugsweise beträgt der pH-Wert der Phosphatierungs-lösung 4,5 bis 5,5, die Dihydrogenphosphatkonzentration 4 bis 10 g/l und die meta-Nitrobenzosulfonatkonzentration 0,1 bis 1,5 g/l.
