A choke or transformer, especially for use in series-connected appliances for gas discharge lamps, with a plate pack (5) constituted by a core (6) and a jacket (7) and composed of plate laminae, the winding of which pack is on the core (6) and insulated therefrom and from the jacket (7), while on each side upon the winding parts (winding overhangs (1a, 2a)) protruding on both sides beyond the plate pack (5) there is set a one-piece insulating material moulding (8) which comprise a tongue (9) pushed into the interspace between the core (6) and the protruding winding parts and an outer wall (10) lying before the protruding winding parts and connected with the tongue (9) by an upper wall part (11), and openings defined by this outer wall (10) and the adjacent end wall of the plate pack (5) are covered by cover parts connected with the plate pack - for example formed wholly or partially by an assembly bar - and/or by side walls (12) of the insulating material mouldings (8), characterized in that in the case of a winding of at least two coils (1, 2) fitted into one another, that is lying in one winding plane, the insulating material mouldings (8) comprise partitions (16) connected with the upper wall part (11), extending between the winding overhangs (1a, 2a) of two adjacent coils (1, 2), extending in the region between the tongue (9) and the outer wall (8) approximately parallel to the tongue (9) and insulating these winding overhangs (1a, 2a) from one another (Figures 1-4).
