Paper feeding device for printers for the alternative feeding of single sheets (B) and continuous paper (A), in particular for typewriters or business machines having a common drive mechanism (10) for a platen (1) and a paper tractor (4), the drive of the platen (1) and of the paper tractor (4) taking place dependently on the operating mode of single-sheet or continuous paper and, at the same time, the rate of advancement of the platen (1) being greater than that of the paper tractor (4), characterized in that a changeover gear (12), which can be swivelled according to the operating mode, is provided with a primary drive wheel (11) which is in constant engagement with the common drive (10) and in turn is in constant engagement with two secondary drive wheels (13, 14), each arranged so as to be able to swivel, the secondary drive wheels (13, 14) being dimensioned in such a way that, in a first swivel position assigned to the continuous paper mode, the one secondary drive wheel (13) is in engagement with the tractor (4) and the other secondary drive wheel (14) is in engagement with the platen (1) and, in a second swivel position, assigned to the single-sheet mode, only the one secondary drive wheel (13) is in engagement with the platen (1).
