[origin: WO8402105A1] A machine for removing the thickened root portion of a log, comprising a combined holding/rotating means (1) for receiving and elevating the log from the conveyor (2) with the root end (3') of the log (3) projecting freely outwardly from the holding means (1) and for rotating the log. A cutter unit (4) that is adapted to be raised and lowered is arranged adjacent to the holding means (1) with its axis of rotation disposed in the longitudinal direction of the log (3) for working contact against the root end (3') of the log (3). The holding/rotating means comprises an upper (1a) and a lower (1b) member, wherein at least the lower member (1b) is adapted to be raised and lowered for elevating the root end (3') of the log (3) into contact against the upper holder member (1a), in which position the log (3) is rotated and milled off by the cutter unit (4) while the top end (3'') of the log remains supported by the conveyor (2). The machine can be controlled manually, but preferably drive means (5 and 6) are provided for raising and lowering the upper and lower holder members (1a, 1b) on arms (7, 8) that can be raised and lowered and are pivotally mounted on a frame (9), said drive means being automatically controlled by means of suitable sensor equipment.

Une machine pour enlever la partie de racine épaisse d'une souche comporte un mécanisme combiné de maintien et de rotation (1) pour recevoir et élever la souche à partir de la convoyeuse (2), l'extrémité racine (3') de la souche (3) faisant librement saillie vers l'extérieur à partir du mécanisme de maintien (1), ainsi que pour faire pivoter la souche. Une unité de coupe (4) conçue pour être élevée et abaissée est placée près du mécanisme de maintien (1), son axe de rotation étant situé dans la direction longitudinale de la souche (3) afin de travailler par contact contre l'extrémité racine (3') de la souche (3). Le mécanisme de maintien et de rotation comporte un élément supérieur (1a) et un élément inférieur (1b), dont au moins l'élément inférieur (1b) est conçu pour être élevé et abaissé afin d'élever l'extrémité racine (3') de la souche (3) et de la mettre en contact avec l'élément de maintien supérieur (1a); une fois la souche (3) dans cette position, l'unité de coupe (4) la fait pivoter avant de la découper, tandis que l'extrémité sommet (3'') de la souche continue d'être soutenue par la convoyeuse (2). La machine peut être contrôlée manuellement, mais des mécanismes d'entraînement (5 et 6) sont préférés pour élever et abaisser les éléments de maintien supérieur et inférieur (1a, 1b) sur des bras (7, 8) qui peuvent être élevés et abaissés et qui sont montés, de façon à pouvoir pivoter, sur un cadre (9), lesdits mécanismes d'entraînement étant contrôlés automatiquement par un équipement détecteur approprié.
