In a method of casting a strand from aluminium or an alloy thereof using a casting mould with cooling of the resulting strand by means of carbon dioxide-containing water, the amount of carbon dioxide added to the water during the starting process is kept constant, but its concentration within the coolant is reduced by increasing the water supply. At the same time, the thermal contact between strand surface and cooling water is increased. The supply of carbon dioxide is to be interrupted after the starting process or when the carbon dioxide concentration falls below a given value.

Bei einem Verfahren zum Giessen eines Stranges, insbesondere aus Aluminium oder einer Aluminiumlegierung, durch eine Giesskokille unter Kühlung des entstehenden Stranges mittels Kohlendioxid enthaltendem Wasser wird die dem Wasser zugesetzte Menge an Kohlendioxid während des Anfahrvorganges konstant gehalten, jedoch seine Konzentration innerhalb des Kühlmittels durch Erhöhung des Wasserzuflusses vermindert. Gleichzeitig wird der thermische Kontakt zwischen Strangoberfläche und Kühlwasser erhöht. Die Zufuhr des Kohlendioxids soll nach dem Anfahrvorgang oder nach Unterschreiten eines bestimmten Kohlendioxidkonzentrationswertes unterbrochen werden.
