Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2140051A] A tape-like object 2 such as a fastener tape the shrinkage curve of which is known traverses a plurality of rollers 6 disposed within a heating unit 1. In order for the tape 2 to travel through the heating unit 1 in a substantially tension-free state or under a prescribed tension, a suitable feed speed based upon the shrinkage curve is obtained. The rollers 6 are driven by drive means 17-20, responsive to commands from control means, in accordance with the feed speed in such a manner that each roller 6 rotates at a speed different from the other rollers, or in such a manner that groups 13-16 of the rollers 6 each rotate at a speed which is different for each group. A supply unit 3 feeds the object into the heating unit 1 and and a discharge unit 4 extracts the object from the unit 1. The unit 4 includes a cooling device 41 and a discharge section 42. The object 2 is cooled and heat-set while being elongated by rollers 43, 44 of device 41. <IMAGE>
